Guedes enjoying most successful season in front of goal
Gonçalo Guedes has hit top form at the end of 2021. The Portuguese has been a difference maker in recent games, and a move into a more free-roving role by coach José Bordalás has brought him closer to the area and given him the chance to show his attacking prowess.
So successful has been the transition, that Guedes has already racked up his highest goal tally in a LaLiga season with Valencia CF, despite the fact that only 18 games have been played to date.
With his two goals against Levante UD before Christmas, he reached six goals for the campaign. His previous best was the five goals he achieved in the 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2020/21 seasons, respectively.
The 2019/20 season ended with him grabbing two goals in league competition, although he scored several decisive goals in the Europa League that year.
Great goals have always been a staple of the attacker, but Guedes would also fall short of six goals with Benfica and Paris Saint-Germain in domestic competition -making his achievements this season more than notable.
In addition, this season he is Valencia CF's top assist provider, having set up his teammates on four occasions.
